Mule Deer
Texas Has Trophy Mulies Too!
You think Texas is a great place to shoot a trophy buck? It sure is, especially if you're looking for a trophy mule deer! We hunt over 150,000 acres in Presidio County, Texas. In 2007, ten hunters took 11 bucks. The average score was 160.5, with four bucks over 170", and one buck scoring 185 3/8". We have a greater number of tags for the 2008 season, and will be taking 18 hunters. Our greater than normal average score for Texas mule deer can be attributed to our rancher's involvement with the Texas MLDP program. Participation in this program allows mule deer to be hunted during peak rut, thus increasing the number of bucks we see. This of course, results in having a greater selection, as well as catching the big guys with their guard down. This country is high desert with an average elevation of 6000 feet, and has been the backdrop of movies likes "No Country for Old Men" as well as "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada", both Tommy Lee Jones classics. We consider these ranches to be as good as you'll find in West Texas, and we have the references to back it up. As a bonus, Trophy Aoudad sheep are free ranging in this area of Texas. Although not as tough as hunting the great sheep of Alaska, you'd better be in shape! We guarantee you'll lose a few pounds! If you're ready for a serious change of pace, give us a call.
